'Your future looks bright'

This is the message on the small piece of paper inside my fortune cookie. I am at the Golden Dragon, a chinese restaurant in New York. In a lot of chinese restaurants in the USA and Europe, it bring fortune cookies when you finish your meal. So most people think the home of these special biscuits is China. But they are wrong.

The story of fortune cookies goes back to 1915, and the clever idea of Makoto Hagiwara, a JapaneseAmerican from San Francisco. You can find fortune cookies in China, but only in the last few years - since 1993, in fact. Tourists like them, but they are not popular with Chinese people because there's a lot of sugar in them. In fact, not many people like the taste of fortune cookies. 'They're very dry and hard is a common opinion! People like them because it is fun to break them and read the message inside.

Fortune Cookies are free when the waiter brings them with your bill, but you can also buy them on the internet. If you go to a fortune cookie website, you can write your own messages to go in the cookies, and you can choose from different colours and sizes. People buy fortune cookies to give to guests at birthday parties, weddings and other special occasions.

The Eden Project

If you're near St Austell in Cornwall, there's one place you shouldn't miss. Go to Eden Project and travel the worl in a day - from the hot, humid rainforests of South America, to the dry American desert and the warm Mediterranean.

It's a fantastic place - an environmental centre with three huge plastic domes about 150 metres high. They look like something from another planet ! They're called biomes and they are actually very big greenhouses with thousands of plants and trees from all over the world.

There are also lots of other interesting things to do and see - beautiful gardens outside, art exhibitions, story-telling, concerts and the largest ice rink in Britain. And im sure you'll recognise the biomes. They used them in the James Bond movie Die Another Day in 2002.

 Eden's great fun. You'll have a wonderful time - and it'll also be an amazing learning experience !

One Stupid Dragon

Once upon a time in a cave there lived a big and fierce dragon. He could breath out fire from his mouth. He was very proud of it because this ultimate weapon could burn down houses and lands.
One day, he heard from his old companions that there was one strong dragon who challenged every dragon to defeat him. So he flew out of his cave to take the challenge. All the way he showed off his strength by burning every house and land he found. No one could stop him. He was so proud because he could make every one and thing out of his way. But, after several hundred miles from his cave, the weather changed. The cloud got darker and darker, then suddenly a very thick fog approached. Blindly he moved his wings to find the right direction, but unfortunately, he hit one giant tree. It broke his left wing and made him fall to the ground, and this made his right wing broken. Now the dragon should walk on his feet to go home. Unluckily, all the way home the people whose houses and lands were burnt by the dragon ran after him. Poor the dragon.

Menggapai Mimpi

Sheryl ! Itu adalah namaku. Aku adalah seorang gadis berusia 12 tahun, periang, dan tak kenal lelah. Aku tinggal di sebuah wilayah terpencil di pinggiran kota New York. Aku tinggal berdua dengan ibuku. Ayahku meninggal dunia saat usiaku 10 tahun. Beliau tertimpa sebuah kecelakaan hebat pada waktu akan melihatku tampil menyanyi di hari perayaan Natal.
Semenjak kejadian itu, aku berpikir bahwa aku adalah penyebab kematian ayahku. Entah mengapa, suara yang mengatakan bahwa aku adalah penyebab kematian ayahku itu terus berbisik dalam hatiku. Aku menjadi ragu untuk melakukan sesuatu. Keringat dinginku menyelimuti tubuhku. "Aku tidak bersalah !!!!!" teriakku dalam hati. Seketika itu, semangatku hilang. Kini, aku bukanlah lagi anak yang periang. Wajahku yang dulunya selalu tersenyum, kini semua itu hilang.
Perlahan, aku mulai merasa kesepian. Teman-temanku yang dulu selalu menemaniku, kini pun pergi meninggalkanku. "ITU SEMUA SALAHKU !!" akhir-akhir ini aku bersikap aneh kepada mereka. Aku seolah-olah tidak menganggap mereka ada. Aku menjadi sosok yang cuek. Aku serasa menjauh dari duniaku..


Di sekolah, nilai-nilai pelajaran dan sikapku pun turun drastis. Guru-guru banyak yang membicarakanku karena tingkahku yang aneh akhir-akhir ini. Orang tuaku jadi sering dipanggil oleh pihak sekolah. Mereka sangat kecewa dengan "aku" yang sekarang.
Saat aku mulai putus harapan untuk mengejar cita-citaku yaitu menjadi Penyanyi, aku pergi ke sebuah gedung. Tepat di mana di depan gedung itu adalah letak kejadian yang menimpa ayahku. Aku naik pada tingkat gedung paling atas. Terbuka dan sepi. Aku berjalan menelusuri pinggiran gedung, melihat keadaan di bawah gedung, "Ahk ! cocok sekali !" Aku mengangkatkan kaki ke tembok yang menjadi pembatas gedung itu.
"aaah !" tiba-tiba seorang petugas di gedung itu melihatku. Ia menarik tubuhku. Mendudukanku, dan memberiku teh hangat. Ia bertanya-tanya mengapa aku bisa senekad itu melakukannya, usiaku masih muda. Tapi aku tidak menanggapinya. Akhirnya, ia menawarkan tumpangan kepadaku. Ia mengantarku sampai di rumah.


Ibuku tidak ada di rumah. Aku masuk ke kamarku..
"AAAAAAGGGHH !!! AKU BENCI SEMUA INI !!!!" gretaakku saat aku melihat tubuhku yang penuh dosa ini di depan cermin di dalam toilet.
Aku teringat satu hal. Tuhan. Aku sadar bahwa selama ini aku merasa aku menjauh dari-Nya. Aku terdiam dan bertelut. Tubuhku yang penuh dosa ini. Aku hampir saja menyia-nyiakan anugerah Tuhan. Ia memberikanku tubuh yang masih sehat. Tapi aku hampir saja membunuhnya. "Fiiiuuuhh... Tuhan, jikalau aku masih bisa diberi kesempatan satu kali lagi untuk bisa merubah hidupku menjadi yang dulu, yang tidak kenal lelah, jikalau aku masih bisa membuka hatiku untuk-Mu, tolong ya Tuhan ! Aku manusia yang penuh dosa. Aku butuh kasih-Mu. Aku ingin mengubah segalanya menjadi jauh lebih baik dari ini.." Aku menangis dan menangis. Tapi Tuhan Maha Kasih. Ia mendengar doaku. Ia berbisik dalam hatiku, "Anakku, tentu saja, kamu bisa mengubah segalanya menjadi lebih baik, bahkan jauh..jauh lebih baik dari sebelumnya. Tenanglah ! Dosamu diampuni. Aku dengar semua doamu, engkau mengatakannya dengan tulus. Jadi jangan khawatir ! Aku selalu ada dalam hatimu !".
Suara itu sangat menyentuh hatiku. Aku mengambil sehelai tisu, membersihkan air mataku. Aku mulai merasakan sesuatu yang hebat terjadi dalam diriku. "Apakah ini mimpi?" tanyaku dalam hati..


Keesokan harinya, aku kembali bersekolah..
Dan hari-hari kedepan, rasanya menjadi lebih cerah dari sebelumnya. Aku kembali pada "aku" yang dulu. Teman-temanku mulai mendatangiku. Nilai-nilaiku berubah. Prestasiku meningkat ! Melebihi "aku" yang dulu !

Kini, usiaku 12 tahun.
Acara kelulusan kelas 6 diselenggarakan hari ini. Orang tuaku datang. Mereka sangat senang. Aku LULUS !! Aku tidak bisa menahan air mataku. Aku berterima kasih kepada Tuhan. Ia mengubah hidupku ! Ia menjadikanku menjadi "Girls Idol" atau idola para gadis.


Aku rutin hadir pada acara-acara gereja. Dan aku mengikuti sebuah pelajaran menyanyi. Aku tak kenal lelah untuk berlatih menyanyi. Aku banyak mengisi acara dengan menyanyi di gereja maupun di sekolah.
Hidupku benar-benar berbeda !


Dan sekarang, aku berada dalam panggung fantastic di Kota New York, bukan di sebuah wilayah terpencil tapi di KOTA NEW YORK ! Aku diberi penghargaan oleh gubernur New York. FANTASTIC !
Tuhan benar-benar ada ! Ia ada di hatimu dan hati kita semua !

WHO IS GOD ?

God wants us to know Him. In Psalm 46:10 He says, "Be still, and know that I am God." "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.'" Psalm 14:1.

He is a living God. "The Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King." Jeremiah 10:10. God is a living Person. He is a real Being. He can see and hear. "The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those that do evil." 1 Peter 3:12.

God is eternal. There never was a time when He did not exist. Before the "mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hast formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting thou art God." Psalm 90:2.

God is creator. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1. Read the story of creation. It is recorded in Genesis 1 and 2. God took only six days to create the world. On the seventh day God ended His work. READ GENESIS 2:1-13. The seventh day became the birhtday of the world. It is still the Sabbath day today.

Thus God founded the weekly cycle. The last day of the week belongs to God. The seventh day was set apart to remind man that God is the creator. Everyone should worship God and Him only. He commands us to worship no other God. "You shall have no other gods before me." Exodus 20:3. God is not pleased to see man worship idols. "We know that an idol has no real existence, and that 'there is no God but one'." 1 Corinthians 8:4. Psalm 135:15-18 tells of the uselessness of idols.

Believe in the God of heaven. Worship Him. Obey Him and praise Him. Why not start today ? To know God is life eternal. Please READ JOHN 17:3.

David mendapat kesempatan untuk piknik ke Israel, di sana ia mau keliling-keliling Danau Galilea, lalu ia mendekati pemilik perahu.

David : "Pak, saya mau keliling Danau Galilea, berapa biaya sewa perahunya?"

Pemilik Perahu : "Seratus rupiah satu jam."

David : "Wah.. mahal amat, di Danau Toba aja gak segitu."

Pemilik Perahu : "Ya ini kan Galilea, lagi pula di Danau ini Yesus pernah berjalan di atas air."

David : "Pantas aja Yesus jalan di atas air, habis sewa perahunya mahal sekali!"

Pemilik Perahu : "&^%$#"

I created this blog because it is inspired by a book of biblical learning English. I want to be able to share with readers about the contents of the bible and its meaning. So we also know that God is real and He has power over all the earth.

In fact, a book that inspired me is the book for the baptism in the church school. Nothing !! LOL
